Mail2Web Gateway Frequently Asked Questions
What is the limit in MegaBytes that will shut down my e-mail.. ?There is no enforced limit on how much mail your box can hold. There is a practical limit; however. If someone sends you an 8mb file, for example, it will be very difficult to retrieve that message and any others behind it using a standard e-mail program successfully. This is simply due to the nature of e-mail (it wasn't designed to handle huge files). For huge files, have the person that is sending the file use FTP (File Transfer Protocol) instead. Back to Top
Will this allow me to delete messages that are "clogging" the box if my box is inaccessible due to too much mail?Yes, if you have a 10MB file in your box, for example, you will be able to see the subject/sender for it and delete it from your mailbox using the Mail2Web gateway. You wouldn't be able to do so from a normal POP mail program due to the fact that being connected over a modem it would eventually timeout. The Mail2Web gateway will not be plagued with this problem since it is not actually having to transfer the messages before they can be read. Back to Top
Can I specify a limit on the maximum size of a file that someone can send me so my mailbox doesn't get clogged?Shortly at www.vvm.com/filters we will be adding two new features in addition to the spam blocking. 1. vacation option and 2. limit the maximum size of a file that someone could send to you. Right now there is no global limit and we've decided to leave that decision up to the customer on a customer by customer basis, rather then setting some arbitrary limit that may not be appropriate. If someone sends me a graphics file or a program can I view it or download it from here? No, currently this is a very limited mail program whos main purpose is to provide the convenience of being able to send and view small messages without having to go into your mail program. In the future we might reprogram it to support more advanced options normally associated with full blown mailer program, currently it does not have that capability. Back to Top
